About Us

Dunn Bros Coffee was founded in 1987 by brothers Ed and Dan Dunn. In the early 1980s, while attending college in Eugene, Oregon, Ed Dunn took particular notice of the success of small coffeehouses in the Portland and Seattle areas. He developed an interest in this coffee phenomenon and learned the business through food service and coffee retail work after college. Ed found that customers loved the "fresh roasted" aroma of the coffee being served. He realized that aroma clearly signaled quality coffee to consumers. The problem with achieving this effect is that the coffee aroma significantly dissipates a short time after roasting—in a matter of only a few days. That's when Dunn hit on what it would take to deliver that quality coffee experience to customers every time: in-store roasting.

In December of 1987, Ed and Dan opened the first Dunn Bros Coffee Shop on Grand Avenue in St. Paul, Minnesota. They made sure their coffee beans were "fresh roasted" daily to ensure each and every customer who walked into Dunn Bros Coffee got the freshest, most flavorful cup of coffee possible.

Whether guests sipped their drinks in the shop or brought home a bag of fresh roasted beans, they discovered Dunn Bros Coffee delivered the richest flavor possible. That's why today, most Dunn Bros Coffee shops still roast beans daily, right where it's served.

But it's not just where our beans are roasted that makes them special. It's where they're grown. We buy our coffee beans worldwide and choose them based on one standard: Quality. Not price. Not convenience. It's the only way to ensure that only the finest beans make it to Dunn Bros Coffee and into your cup.

So stop in to your local Dunn Bros Coffee shop. Take in the aroma and kick back. Meet a friend. Get some work done. Catch a welcome break from your busy day. All our shops have comfortable seating and free WiFi. Discover our great selection of fresh-roasted beans. Enjoy some food. Check out the work from local artists that's often displayed in our shops. Or just stop by for some of that fresh-roasted coffee aroma. It is, after all, why we're all here.
